Spring Arbor Senior Living communities are proud to join others across the country to recognize Alzheimer’s and Dementia Education Week, observed from February 14th to 21st. This is a crucial time to raise awareness and provide education for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, Whether you have a loved one struggling with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, or you are a healthcare professional seeking more information on best practices in dementia care, there are valuable resources available to help navigate this journey.
Alzheimer’s and Dementia Education Week was first organized by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) to highlight the importance of education and training in dementia care. This initiative aims to enhance understanding, promote best practices, and provide families and caregivers with the tools they need to support those experiencing cognitive decline.
At Spring Arbor, we are deeply committed to providing exceptional care and support for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. We proudly partner with the NCCDP on various initiatives, ensuring that our team members receive high-quality training to better serve our residents. Many of our Executive Directors and Cottage Leaders are Certified Dementia Practitioners (CDPs), demonstrating our dedication to expertise in dementia care.
At Spring Arbor, we integrate cutting-edge technology to enhance our training efforts and improve the quality of life for our residents. One such initiative is the Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT), a program developed by Second Wind Dreams. This evidence-based experience simulates the daily challenges faced by those living with dementia, helping caregivers and professionals develop a deeper understanding and empathy for their struggles.
In addition, several Spring Arbor communities have introduced Tovertafel technology to their residents. This innovative interactive projector is designed specifically for older adults with dementia, transforming any surface into an engaging and stimulating environment. The games and activities encourage cognitive stimulation, promote physical movement, and foster social interaction—helping residents stay engaged and active.
At Spring Arbor Senior Living, we believe in celebrating life’s moments and creating purposeful journeys together. Our communities prioritize the holistic integration of mind, body, and spirit, ensuring that our residents receive a well-rounded approach to care. This philosophy helps individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia live meaningful, enriched lives.
Jennifer Forrest, Spring Arbor’s Vice President of Quality and Education, a registered nurse with over 20 years of experience in the healthcare and senior living sectors, emphasizes the importance of compassionate, innovative care: "At Spring Arbor, we are committed to providing not only high-quality care but also meaningful experiences that enhance the well-being of our residents. Through education, advanced technology, and a deep understanding of dementia, we strive to make a positive impact in the lives of those we serve."
