Celebrating National Assisted Living Week

  |     |   Uncategorized

Communities across the country will come together this week to mark the annual celebration of National Assisted Living Week!

First established by the National Center for Assisted Living in 1995, and now run in partnership with the American Health Care Association, National Assisted Living Week is an opportunity for residents at assisted living and memory care communities, their loved ones, staff members, volunteers, and others to recognize the role of assisted living across the country.

We always love the opportunity to celebrate our amazing communities and this week is particularly meaningful. All our Spring Arbor communities have special events and activities planned to highlight the individuals we serve, showcase our incredible teams, and educate others about our work.

Assisted living communities have a huge impact and often serve more residents that many people realize. According to the National Center for Assisted Living, over 818,000 Americans call an assisted living community home. Residents often need assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, eating, dressing, walking, and more.

Spring Arbor communities are able to serve our residents with care thanks to the teams of dedicated and compassionate professionals who support our residents and their loved ones each and every day.

Assisted living communities play a vital role by offering engaging and dynamic environments for our residents. The additional support that residents receive at assisted living communities ensures that older adults can enjoy life to the fullest.

Assisted living residents and staff are important members of their local communities as well. Spring Arbor has over 20 locations in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. From small towns to major metropolitan areas, our teams give back in a wide variety of ways. For example, residents and staff members at Spring Arbor communities deliver meals to other seniors with Meals on Wheels, make food for local first responders, make sandwiches and bake cookies for homeless shelters in their areas, organize food drives for local food banks, and participate in Walks to End Alzheimer’s events and fundraisers.

Assisted living communities also have a positive impact through employment opportunities and paths for career growth. Our communities contribute to local economies and support local businesses through a variety of partnerships, such as events, dining and food services, rehabilitation, physical therapy and medical practices, and more.

Most importantly, Spring Arbor communities care for older adults with compassion, dignity, and empathy. We should all celebrate seniors. They helped to build and grow our broader communities and provided younger generations with immense opportunities.

As we celebrate National Assisted Living Week, consider ways you can show appreciation for seniors in your area and educate yourself about the role of assisted living and memory care communities. For example, contact a local assisted living community and ask about volunteer opportunities or ways to engage with their residents. Sometimes the simple act of spending time with an older adult and listening to their life experiences can bring joy and fulfillment.

For those who have loved ones in assisted living, perhaps consider writing a brief thank you note to staff members; it can make a meaningful difference in someone’s day.

National Assisted Living Week is an ideal time to engage with older adults and the assisted living communities that many of them call home.
